If you have already gone through your bankruptcy process, whether with Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, then you will be faced with the task of rebuilding your credit and staying out of debt. Here are four basic tactics for staying out of debt after the bankruptcy process.
1. Control Your Spending
To get the fresh start you desire after Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you must control your spending. Monitoring what you purchase and making sure it is necessary and within your means is crucial to staying out of debt. This may be difficult depending on the circumstances, but it is well worth the effort.
2. Make a Budget
The best way to gain control over your spending is by creating a budget. A budget will help you stay on track with your finances, allocate your money for things you need, as well as help you to purchase only the things that will actually make you happy. It can function like a contract to yourself, ensuring the execution of only planned purchases.
3. Build Up Savings
This may seem like a difficult task after you have just declared bankruptcy, but it does not take a lot to make more money. Using the compounding interest of a savings account or bond can help you build your savings by simply placing the small amount of money you have into savings and letting it grow. This will ensure that you have a monetary safety net for debt relief.
4. Rebuild Your Credit
Rebuilding your credit is crucial in staying out of debt. Borrowing on your post-bankruptcy credit can lead to high interest and cause you to need further debt relief. Be patient, and make sure to use safe methods of attaining and rebuilding your credit after your bankruptcy appeal, such as a secured credit card.

If you are deciding whether or not to hire a bankruptcy law firm to help you in your bankruptcy appeal, then there are a few things you should consider. Whether you are planning to file for Chapter 13 or Chapter 7 bankruptcy, using a bankruptcy law firm is a necessity to ensure a successful outcome. Here are some of the advantages of filing a bankruptcy appeal with a law firm:
Protection from Creditor Harassment
It is still possible for your creditors to contact you after you have retained a lawyer, but there are a few things your law firm can do to get this to stop. First, you can have your creditors contact your lawyer instead of you. If they continue to harass you, then your lawyer can make a legal move to cease these actions, which will save you a lot of stress in your difficult time.
Help Navigating the Legal Process
Bankruptcy laws are confusing and hard for those without experience to navigate. There are many different people you must stay in contact with, and you must piece together every bit of information. In addition, there are multiple types of bankruptcy, all with different restrictions. Anything you say or do can lead to unexpected future consequences. It is wise to hire a lawyer whose job it is to deal with this process, in order to ensure that your appeal is granted.
Proper Completion of Paperwork
The paperwork involved in filing bankruptcy appeals is confusing and lengthy. If you fill something out wrong, then you may have to start all over, and possibly be barred from bankruptcy appeals for a period. It is important to have a knowledgeable law firm that can help you with this difficult process.
